New ways of doing business

Over the past year it has become very obvious that emails have replaced phones and paper as a means of passing information quickly within and outside the Niue Public service-between departments, Ministers and the private sector.
It is an excellent medium if you comfortable with it and savvy, but many are having problems
This government prides itself in being open and trasnparent. The onlyt information that I would withold would be personal and commercailly sensitiv ones
As we progress into the future and with the introduction of this blog we will basically become more open to discussion and rationalising what we are doing.
I believe it is very imporatnt that we advise the public what we have done and why.
I hope you will all participate sensibily and openly in this page without being nasty and personal.
And you will also excuse my English spelling and grammar.
It is the idea and sharing that counts not whether a person can spell or use correct grammar syntax etc.

Thanks for being first to offer any comments. I often wonder what others think about my views and thoughts.

  3. Hope that it develops more so that the dialogue continues as people contribute, but you know Niueans are a hard bunch and really like to sit back and watch first to see if things are good.Bloggings are a great means of communication and makes people more accessible so this is great Premier. Anyway, instead of people moaning about the state of things in general, maybe we can share positive ideas in how to go forward for Niue. I personally like people who are doers and get things done in any case. Opinions are great- Toke, at the next Arts Festival, there should be some kind of leaders debate that brings out peoples passion constructively. It is the people that are important to Niue, so if you also capitalise on this area, you could generate an exciting new area for any Niueans to debate what makes Niue works, purposely putting passionate Niueans against one another ( in a civilsed way of course! ) Topics could be anything- as long as it generates discussion- and you know that Niueans love talking....

  4. I think that may be part of the problem Zora, we talk too much sometimes.
It is interesting to me to see Niueans debate ideas. Invariably they tend to personnalise issues and are generally subjective and not always objective. Thats been my obesrvation anyway. It might be different in NZ now.
Not withsatnding that, we should continue to seek to discuss and debate matters particulalrly the important ones.
A festival of debating!!! Now that would be something indeed

  5. Greetings Toke, I know a few Niuean talkers on this side- they are young, Niuean and very passionate about Niue. For them it's like defending themselves and their own little patch- especially when it comes to identity. These kind of discussions can start small but have the ability to generate ideas and get the 'doers' into action. These types of people do not sit around and wait for results and this is the beauty of civilised debate. I have seen some very good ones go down on the Niue Global Community as well- can you see it? I can and it's very exciting. And what could be better for Niue than to see a bunch of excited young Niueans going against each other in a modern day arena - all it needs is an idea to start and grow....hmmmm....as for personalizing it? there's always that chance, but as I said, the young Niueans here that I know, know how to agree to disagree. I am very sure in the right area with moderators present and a supporting audience, it can be done , with clear rules. Without naming names, I have online debates and have witnessed these first hand- and these people are certainly not boring. Niue needs new ideas flowing and that's where the growth of these ideas with a positive attitude that we will be able to generate ways to try and help ourselves. This is only one idea anyway. Will talk again soon...Monuina Kilisimasi Premier.
